Gaming 357 News - New Game Sketching

gaming 357

Created at Carnegie Mellon university in Adelaide, Australia, by students, game sketching is designed to supplant game elements that usually take months of design work.

"This is a technology that is useful for companies that are exploring new intellectual properties and new games," said John Buchanan, Director of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center.

"These techniques are also applicable to interactive web technologies - anything where the design involves the interaction of a user, where you want to understand what the experience of being in that space, or that world, is."

"We are often far too busy building stuff to take the time out to think... we believe that establishing a culture of game sketching will enable teams within the industry to explore new ideas in a fun, cheap and risk-free manner."

"The use of game sketching allows experimentation with little risk," Mr Buchanan explained.
"We give managers with tight budgets a tool with which their employees can explore new ideas at minimal cost."

Xbox 360 Gaming Push by Microsoft

With the upcoming Halo 3 launch, Microsoft is attempting to build as much hype as possible around its new gaming console, especially since it was announced the Nintendo Wii has overtaken Xbox 360 gaming in global sales.

Microsoft recently stated that more than 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold across the globe since 2005.

Microsoft said there are over two hundred fifty games currently available on the 360, which includes eighty-six Live Arcade games. These numbers give the 360 the largest games attach rate, with 6.3 games sold per console owner.

In 3/2007 Microsoft announced that Xbox Live service has reached its six million member goal four months quicker than originally the company had predicted. This means that over one million members have joined the service in just six months.
